Fatal Quebec plane crash may be linked to fog
Conditions were foggy when a float plane carrying six people hit the side of a mountain in northern Quebec, Transportation Safety Board officials said Saturday.
Three adults and a 13-year old boy were killed in Friday's crash in a densely wooded area near Chute-des-Passes, Que.
The two survivors were flown to hospital in Chicoutimi. One is suffering from severe burns and has been transferred to a burn unit in Quebec City. A teenage boy suffered only minor injuries.
"The aircraft entered fog," said Paul Frechette, a TSB investigator. "And speaking to one of the witnesses there, it hit the side of the mountain. The pilot likely saw it too late."
The de Havilland Beaver was travelling toward Lac des Quatres from Lac Morang.
Frechette said five of the six people on board the Air Saguenay plane were from the same family although police have yet to identify them publicly.
The pilot is said to have made an emergency call as he was trying to land after encountering bad weather.
