Float Plane Crash in Alaska Kills Multiple People, Officials Say
A float plane carrying 10 people crashed into a lake in a rural part of Alaska on Tuesday morning local time and Alaska State Troopers believe multiple fatalities might have occurred.
Officials have not yet confirmed the number of fatalities, but at least seven of the 10 people on board the plane survived the crash, Staff Sergeant Edward Eagerton, public affairs specialist with the 176th Wing Alaska Air National Guard, tells Newsweek.
The plane, a De Havilland DHC-3 Turbine Otter on floats, reportedly crashed on East Wind Lake in Iliamna, a small town in the state's southwest roughly an hour from Anchorage by plane, just before 7 a.m. local time. The crash occurred just 300 yards from Iliamna Airport, Eagerton said.
Two of the survivors were treated with local medical care and the other five individuals were taken to clinics, Eagerton said.
