If you're already afraid of flying, don't watch this.
Unbelievable footage has captured the moment extreme wind conditions lift a jumbo jet well into the air at a California boneyard.
The video, taken on Wednesday and posted on YouTube, shows the incredible result when winds reaching over 70 miles per hour come into contact with a heavy airplane, sitting stationary.

Normally during takeoff, an airplane flies into the wind, and air movement over the wings lifts the aircraft up into the sky.

But the video shows how a plane can still be lifted up when standing still, if the wind is strong enough.
The nose of the Southern Air jet, parked at the yard in Mojave, outside of Los Angeles, is lifted metres off the ground as the 747s wings generate enough movement to actually pick the fuselage.
The wind sees the plane bounce around while the back wheels stay in place.

The next day the plane was found to have rotated about 45 degrees from its original position.
The same wind storm damaged many rooftops, cut power and sent huge clouds of sand and dust billowing into the sky.
According to
Gadling.com, the Southern Air 747 shown in the footage is scheduled to be scrapped, so the engines and much of the interior had been stripped off the plane's frame.
It was because of this reduced weight that the airplane was able to effectively take off. So don't worry, it is unlikely to happen on your next flight.
