قالت الشرطة ان طائرة ركاب تقل 19 شخصا معظمهم من الاجانب نحو مطار في ظل جبل ايفرست تحطمت على مشارف العاصمة النيبالية، مما أسفر عن مقتل جميع ركابها.
وكانت الطائرة متجهة الى بلدة صغيرة تدعى وكلا وهي بوابة لقمة ايفرست، وسقطت الطائرة نحو نهر على مشارف المدينة.
"جميع ركاب الطائرة وعددهم 19 شخص لقوا حتفهم. حيث تم العثور على موقع الحادث على بعد أقل من كيلومتر واحد (نصف ميل) من المطار"، وقال المتحدث باسم الشرطة النيبالية بينود سينغ.
"ويبدو أن الطيارين حاولوا الهبوط بأمان على ضفاف النهر ولكن للأسف الطائرة اشتعلت فيها النيران."

KATHMANDU, Sept 28, 2012 (AFP) - A passenger jet carrying 19 people, mainly foreigners, towards an airport in the shadow of Mount Everest crashed Friday on the outskirts of the Nepalese capital, police said, killing everyone on board.
“A Sita Air plane carrying 16 passengers and three crew crashed near Kathmandu airport. Rescuers are trying to put out the fire,” police spokesman Binod Singh
The Sita Air craft had just taken off from Kathmandu airport and was headed to the small town of Lukla, a gateway to Everest, when it plunged towards a river on the outskirts of the city.
"All 19 passengers of the Sita Air plane have died. The accident site is less than one kilometre (half a mile) from the airport," said Nepal Police spokesman Binod Singh.
"The pilots seem to have tried to land it safely on the banks of the river but unfortunately the plane caught fire."

Sita Air operates 4 Dornier Fairchild manufactured DO 228-202/-202K/-212 twin engine Turbo prop aircraft fitted with Garrett TPE331-10T/-5A Engine.

It is a 18 seater STOL ( Short Takeoff and Landing ) aircraft, with single window seating, capable of landing in 35 of the 47 airfields of the country with the speed of 200 Nautical Miles/Hour. Periodically, we carry out scheduled inspection and other structural maintenance as prescribed by the manufacturers. These aircraft except one have higher power rated engine (flat-rated to 715 SHP) as compared to other Dornier flying in Nepal. These aircraft are certified for both passenger and cargo operations
